Abstract Northeast China has an important status in the economic development of China with its important geopolitical strategies and stratagem station, abundant resources and solid economic foundation. But man-land relationship of northeast China is exacerbating step by step with the economy development. In other words, the history of northeast China's development of population, city and traffic is also the history of ecology environment's depravation and man-land relationship's strain. So it is necessary and important to study the vicissitude of the man-land relationship of northeast China,which can help to have a correct understanding to the inherent mechanism of the interaction between man and land, and can guide northeast China's economy and society to harmonize.
For man is in the core of the man-land relationship system and is prime mover and ultimate beneficiary. City is the regional space system which centralizes the population and economy activities. Traffic is the affiliation bridge of the region economy development which embodies the interaction track of the man-land. The paper chooses these three elements to analyze the vicissitude rule among population, city and traffic. Firstly, the paper divides the history of one hundred years into three seedtimes according to the history character of development of northeast China as followings:harmony stage, depravation stage and accelerating depravation stage, and then analyses the situation of the different stages on the development of population, city and traffic in Northeast China and sums up their development characteristics. Secondly, the paper discloses the interaction mechanism among population, city, traffic and environment, draws a conclusion that four factors interact and interdepend and combines into one, which are affected by economic and political factors and are the results of the outside and internal force.. In the end, the paper has a short summarization and puts forward brief countermeasures of the population, city and traffic. The paper points out how to reach the goal of the population's moderation increase, city's orderliness development and traffic's reasonable distribution, which have become first and urgent question to realize the harmony development of man-land relationship of northeast China.
